Presentation Summary:

 This session reviews common personality traits within the legal profession and what makes our profession a “profession at risk.” It explores the distinction between enabling, motivating, supporting, and encouraging behaviors and encourages “carefront,” confronting with compassion by identifying a discrepancy in actions and words, with a genuine concern for well-being.

Biography: Jeremy Rakes (Director), Alabama Lawyer Assistance Program

 Jeremy Rakes is Director of the Alabama Lawyer Assistance Program through the Alabama State Bar. Prior to that, he was with Bradford Treatment Center for 18 years as a counselor and the Family Program Director. He has presented on mental health issues at conferences and workshops for numerous companies and organizations all over the Southeast. His desire to work in the field of mental health began when he entered a drug and alcohol treatment center. His passion is working with individuals and families that have been affected by addiction and mental health problems. He has been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since December 5, 1999, and also Al-Anon for over 13 years.

Mr. Rakes deceived his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama, Birmingham and his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama. He currently lives in Hoover, AL with his wife and their 4 children.
